The property is located at approx 25 km (15.5 mi) south of Siena. The nearest town is 9 km (5.6 mi) from Il Paradiso. Florence is 90 km (56 mi) away, the Maremma coast 70 km (43.5 mi), Pisa at 125 km (78 mi) and Rome 240 km (149 mi) away. The famous vineyards of the Siena region: Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are all close by. In close proximity within the immediate surrounding region are marvelous abbeys like San Galgano and Monte Oliveto Maggiore; places that still mark the ancient “via Francigena” (pilgrim route). Meanwhile, the nearby towns of Volterra and Murlo are connected with even earlier times pre-dating the roman era … that of the ancient Etruscans (which remain alive even on our property as some of the “poderi” – farm localities – have Etruscan names). There are numerous possibilities for horse-back rides in the Natural Park of Farma-Merse. There are trails for hiking and mountain biking. On the property there is a large 5.5 ha lake (13.6 acre) for lovers of fishing and boating (be prepared to come equipped with fishing rods and canoes !). Also plenty of opportunity for bird-watching. In the grounds of “Il Paradiso” there is the swimming pool exclusively for the guests and table-tennis in the outside courtyard. Terme di Petriolo (has natural hot water baths), a beauty farm at Bagnaia, concerts at the famous Chigiana Academy in Siena, and numerous other small centres of rich artistic importance. The famous Palio (medieval horse race) in Siena is held on July 2nd and the 16th of August. There are various other regional “sagre” (many towns have their own such country feasts, many with particular themes, e.g. a “sagra del fungo” might be a feast centered around the time of the harvest of the wild mushrooms, “sagra dell’ uva” celebrates the grape harvest, others will have medieval themes, some will celebrate certain art forms such as the famous crystal and glass-blowing event in Colle Val D’Elsa etc. etc.)
We can arrange for a chef, cleaning lady, baby-sitting, cooking lessons, walks with a botanical guide, guided tours of Siena, guided tours of various historical gardens in the area. |
